Not All Recipes Are Equal

fortune cookies

For Christmas, we had the idea to make fortune cookies to give along with a gift card to Panda Express for my nephew. Now I’m no expert baker but I am good at following recipes. We found a recipe on Pinterest and got to work. I did a test batch to make sure it would turn out right. Failed. It was sticking to the parchment paper. I tried it a few times following it exactly and it didn’t work.

My wife told me to give up as it was getting late and we had to put the presents out. It was Christmas Eve. I was determined to try it because it was such a fun idea and I wanted it to work. So I went on YouTube and found another recipe. This one was a little bit different. They had most of the same ingredients, but this had a couple of different ones the other one didn’t have.

We tried it and it turned out successful. I was so glad I kept with it because it was a hit. It wasn’t a problem with the oven. It was a recipe problem.

Choose the Right Recipe

Creating video can be the same way. You may have tried using video and failed so you don’t want to use video again. Think of it like this. Your video is like the oven. It delivers the final product or in this case the idea or story to your audience. The recipe is your messaging, story, concept for solving your customers problem, and leading with purpose and intent in your planning.

Video works. Video is just a communication channel to get the message or idea out. Video is a powerful tool for marketing your business. The recipe you were using to create videos may have seemed good but ultimately led to failure. Not all recipes are equal. Sometimes you have the wrong recipe. You might be close but missing a few ingredients can still make it turn out totally wrong. If it’s not working for you, try a better recipe. If you don’t know what recipe works, we can help.
